KARACHI: Mr Bjorn Stigson, President of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development, Geneva, on Thursday, November 30, 2006, launched the Business Council for Sustainable Development (BCSD) Pakistan.

The initiative was unfolded in a ceremony at PSO House, the headquarters of the country’s largest oil marketing company.

The Pakistan chapter will provide leadership, develop and promote business case for sustainable development and demonstrate contribution to sustainable development and share best practices among members.

BCSD Pakistan will also help develop policies that create framework conditions for the business contribution to sustainable development.

WBCSD brings together some 190 international companies in a shared commitment to sustainable development through economic growth, ecological balance and social progress. Members are drawn from more than 30 countries and 20 major industrial sectors.

Mr. Bjorn Stigson is widely recognized as a global business leader actively involved with the business response to the sustainable development challenges. Since 1995, Mr Stigson is president of World Business Council for Sustainable Development, a coalition of about 190 leading business enterprises with a market value of around US$6.0 trillion.
