Pakistan State Oil (PSO), the nation's largest energy company, has inaugurated the first street under its unique PSO Street Program in Thatta, Sindh. Initiated under the visionary leadership of CEO & MD–PSO, Mr. Naeem Yahya Mir, this first-of-its-kind initiative will help PSO engage both its employees and the public to carry out community building at a grass-root level and help bring about a social revolution in the lives of the people. Under this scheme, PSO will help develop two streets in each province with state-of-the-art facilities and infrastructure in economically deprived areas across the country where PSO employees reside. At the first street selected under this program, PSO has within a period of just 3 months refurbished the entire street, carried out repairs on street infrastructure including water pipelines, drainage lines, street lights, pedestrian walkways, green belt plantation etc and renovated the surrounding homes through painting of walls and refurbishment of gates as well. Additionally, the Company distributed educational assistance items amongst the area's school children and took steps to ensure financial stability for local households by providing sewing machines to needy families residing in the township. During the inauguration ceremony, Mr. Naeem said that “PSO is not just Pakistan's leading energy company, it is the people's company and we go beyond business to touch the lives of the people we serve.” Speaking further he said that under his CSR plan, PSO would launch multiple new initiatives designed to uplift the masses and provide them with the means to improve themselves over time. This initiative on PSO's part was greeted with great enthusiasm by area residents who celebrated the inauguration ceremony with great joy and extended their deep appreciation to the Company representatives for taking this step. Also speaking at the occasion, Ms Shamail Shah, Chairperson CSR-PSO said, " PSO has done its part to provide a better life for the residents of this area, and now it is responsibility of each resident to take ownership of this street, work with PSO to ensure that the street is maintained in the long run and make this area a better place to live.” The CSR chairperson and her team also extended thanks to the local NGO in facilitating PSO in their efforts for the betterment of the locality. This program will now be replicated in other provinces and PSO will be adopting additional locations where it can provide world-class facilities for local residents in under-privileged areas. This initiative is yet another step for the national energy giant in its efforts towards providing a better and brighter tomorrow for the people of Pakistan. |
