PSO takes the lead in energy conservation

Pakistan State Oil the largest energy provider in the country adopted immediate measures to help curb the alarming energy crisis that mires the majority of the Pakistani population. PSO is to switch off fifty percent of the lights at the head office, all retail outlets, terminals and divisional offices and shall switch on air-conditioner after 11 am. The Company hopes that its efforts shall assist the government in conserving energy during these difficult times and help make life easier for the common man.

The Prime Minister recently concluded a three-day summit on energy conservation where many measures to control this looming crisis were imbibed. Some of the measures agreed at the summit include closure of industrial activities once a week on a staggered basis, cutting power consumption by 50 per cent in government offices and residences, disconnecting power to all billboards and neon signs, putting off alternative streetlights, discontinuing agricultural connections in peak hours and keeping all air-conditioners shut in offices till 11am.

PSO has been at the forefront of numerous environmentally and socially-conscious projects. A good example of one such project was Earth hour. The Company took the initiative of turning off their lights for an hour to support their stand against climate change. This was a practical example  of showing how small initiatives can lead to major achievements.  PSO managing director, Mr. Irfan Qureshi says, “PSO believes in taking practical initiatives to support social and environmental issues and has always believed the fact that by doing a little we can all do a lot.”
