Clarification - "Furnace oil supply chain in a shambles"


Apropos the news article titled "Furnace oil supply chain in a shambles" published in "Dawn" on 23rd February, 2015; Pakistan State Oil (PSO) categorically refutes the statement that there is any shortage of furnace oil and would present here the facts of the matter.

PSO has ample stocks of furnace oil to meet the demands of the power sector. At present, PSO has 91,069 Metric Tons (MTs) of furnace oil stocked at Muzafargarh, 22,523 MTs is stored at Jamshoro while reserves of 25,391 MTs and 23,983 MTs have been built up at the HUBCO and KAPCO power plants respectively. These figures clearly reflect that PSO has adequate stocks to meet the demands of the power sector. At the same time, another vessel containing 65,000 MTs of furnace oil reached Karachi on Sunday and is currently being decanted for onward distribution as per the power sector’s need. With comprehensive plans in place, PSO is fully prepared to the fuel needs of the energy sector in a timely manner and any false impression given to the general public regarding any shortage is completely repudiated.
